AEA Product Repairs

We generally quote three to four weeks for AEA microphone and preamp repairs. Cosmetic work (Re-plating, etc.) can take up to six weeks to complete.

Thank you for entrusting your equipment to us for repair. Our standard policy is to restore your AEA gear to its original operating specifications.

Repair Order Number

Each AEA Product Repair is issued a Repair Order Number. You will receive this number in the confirmation e-mail of your repair. Please include your name and Repair Order Number inside or on the repair package.

Repair Form

  • Repair Work Orders from outside the US must be accompanied by the following forms to avoid duties and Customs issues:
    Customs form CBP-Form-4455.pdf
    Importer's declaration of US Goods returned
  • If your product is under warranty, please upload a copy of your receipt.
    Accepted file types: pdf, jpg, jpeg, png, gif, Max. file size: 2 MB.
  • Upon request, AEA will provide an estimate for your repair, which will be billed as a 1⁄2 hour labor charge ($75.00). This estimate charge can be applied to any current or future repair work.
  • Please refer to the list below for services and parts we provide.
  • Please include your work order number with your repair. It will be generated for you after submission.

Payment

Our service department will call you when your repair is complete and for final payment. AEA accepts card, cash, Paypal, and check.

Our courier of choice is UPS for return shipments. Please let us know if you require an Adult Signature for delivery and if/how much do you want the return shipment to be insured.

Repair Rates

Repair Estimate

Upon request, AEA will provide an estimate for your repair, which will be billed as a 1⁄2 hour labor charge ($75.00). This estimate charge can be applied to any current or future repair work.

The following prices are for AEA ribbon microphones and preamps for products:

  • Shop Labor Rate – $150.00/hr.
  • Re-ribbon AEA mic (except AEA R88) – $215.00
  • Re-ribbon AEA R88 mic – $400.00*

*When one ribbon in an R88 needs to be replaced, AEA must replace both ribbons to ensure a matched pair.

Services Offered

Microphone re-ribboning is the most common repair service we provide. Nevertheless, we offer other restoration services and spare parts for most of our products. Please denote which services you wish to include in your repair order in the form above.

Functional Repairs
  • Correct inverted polarity.
  • Replace output cord and connector.
  • Restore as closely as possible to “original factory standards”.
Cosmetic Repairs
  • Re-silk grilles.
  • Remove dents from grilles (Note: this process can damage silk and may require re-silking).
  • Re-plate grilles (Options: Bright or Satin Nickel).
  • Re-plate other plated parts (Options: Bright or Satin Nickel) Please specify other parts to be re-plated.
  • Replace transformer case.
  • Replace any missing small hardware or badges. (Washers, spacers, thumbscrews, logo badges, etc.)

Shipping Your Repair

Repair Order Number

Please include your name and Repair Order Number inside or on the repair package. You will receive a Repair Order Number in the confirmation e-mail.

Pack Your Products With Care

When shipping, please be sure to pack your microphone carefully, with an ample amount of cushioning. It is especially necessary to support R44 grilles carefully to prevent damage during shipping. AEA is not responsible for damage incurred while shipping to our facility.

Repairs Coming From Outside of U.S.A.

If you are sending in a repair from outside the United States please fill out and include this certificate of registration form (CBP Form 4455) with the package, along with a completed Importer’s Declaration of US Goods returned.

Warranty Coverage

For warranty service, either an existing registration must already be on file with AEA, or an invoice from an AEA dealer showing the product serial number must accompany the equipment when it is sent to AEA. For more information about the AEA’s warranty click here.
